This 575 page soft-cover book is an informal history of Withrow High School. It's author is James Crawford, a former teacher at Withrow.

The book attempts to include information on each class at Withrow since 1919 with excerpts from Tower News and selected news of the day. It includes an extensive list of school extracurricular organizations over the years, sports teams, and school staff, as well.

With over 1,000 pictures, this makes great reading for any alumnus or history buff!

This recording has been provided by the family of George G. Smith ("Smittie") to memorialize the Withrow Minstrels and Smittie's many years of leadership.

Available as a CD or Cassette tape, this includes the wonderful farewell speech by Smittie in 1965.

This is a must-have for anyone who ever attended or performed in the Withrow Minstrels!

As many of you know, "Smittie" used many successful numbers repeatedly over the many years of The Minstrels. This 2 CD set is comprised of various numbers performed in each year 1950-1965. It includes end-men routines and Smittie’s 1965 farewell. It plays much like a real show.

The Alumni Association is indebted to Steve Martin '63 who produces these CDs and donates all proceeds to The Withrow Musical Scholarship Fund. He has dubbed these CDs from original reel-to-reel tapes provided by Smittie's family.

ITEM #10: WITHROW MINSTRELS SHOWS

Audio recordings of the entire Withrow Minstrels show for specific years are available through our mall!

We have individual CDs for the Minstrel shows of 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965. Each CD includes the original program for that year and comes on 2 CDs. Each order will also include two bonus tracks: the Band playing "On Withrow", and the Band and Choir rendition of "The Christmas Processional and Adeste Fidelis" which opened each Smittie Christmas Concert.

Also available is a splendid two CD set titled “The Withrow Minstrels, 1950-65". This is comprised of numbers performed in each of those years, and includes end-men routines and Smittie’s 1965 farewell. It plays much like a real show. Details for acquiring this set are shown in Item 3S above on this page.

The sound quality of 1953 and 1955-59 varies from fair to very good, even within each year. Steve has improved all of these original recordings with audio enhancement software and edited then for continuity.
