This 12" x 13" Mother Tiger signed and numbered print (above) was created by her dear friend John Ruthven c/o 43' to honor Marlene "Mousie" Meyer Holwadel who passed away January 1998 from Brain Cancer. She was one of the founders of the newly formed "Withrow Alumni Association, Inc." (May of 1995) and was a key factor in it's success to date. Now, don't stay saddened by this loss because we all have gained from her expertise and love for her Alma Mater and her zest for outdoor beautification. In the early 70's she dragged a garden hose, mulch and clumps of plants to Fountain Square to plant new flower beds. In the 80's she saved the pavillion at Ault park and more or less silenced the roars of Motorcycles. Fellow Graduate and associate founder Bob McKeever (c/o 50) said "she sat down with the gang (motorcycle) and had a beer" and if you knew her you knew she would do anything to bring harmony to the world. In just those two years she somehow managed to raise $400,000 for the school and even though she had to have radiation every day she would make statements like " I can leave here (Withrow) at 1:45pm, get zapped, stop at McDonald's for a grilled chicken sandwich and be back by 2:30pm". Because of this woman, there are concerts in the Pavillion at Ault Park, families strolling through the rose gardens. Withrow's tower is beautiful and tuck-pointed. The clock works. The hallways are clean. The 99 trees in the "swale"-the low swoop of the yard along Madison Road- are pruned. She was inspirational, she was life and she will be missed. Here's your chance to remember her and help the school by purchasing one of the 250 prints which were produced. All proceeds are donated to the Junior League College Career Center at Withrow Highschool (which in fact donated $20,000 towards the school's new College Career Counseling Center). The original now hangs in the front hall for all to see.
