The Alumni Association offers annuals for sale. Often we do not have the one requested. We have a large file of names requesting annuals from various years. We are asking anyone who could to donate annuals to the Alumni Office. Often they are found at yard sales and/or library book sales. Please buy them for us wherever you see them. It is a wonderful service as well as an opportunity for the Alumni to generate funds. Thanks for caring.
In the front hall of Withrow we have mounted a plaque of SPECIAL TIGERDONORS who have made original (not cumulative) donations of $1,000.ormore. Designed by John Ruthven ‘43 and installed in 1996 with 24 names with room for 39 more. We are pleased to report the original plaque is now full and we have begun an addition with 2 names providing room for many, many more. We would be pleased to see the entire front hall covered with donor names who have made significant contributions. Listed here Special Tiger Donor sis a link to the page with the names presently on the plaques. We would love to see your name join them!
Susan P. Hollister is the new Coordinator in the Center. She was a volunteer last year and brings us a most impressive resume with experience as a counselor and teacher. Jean Parker elected not to continue as coordinator this year but will be on board as a volunteer. We look forward to working with Susan to continue the fine work done last year by Jean. If you would be interested in becoming a volunteer in the Center, call Susan at 533-5735 or the Alumni Office at 321-4107. Below are statistics from last year. We can’t take all the credit, but we like the figures:
| Number of seniors taking ACT tests: |
| 1995 (83) | 1996 (73) | 1997 (73) | 1998 (70) | 1999 (105) |
| 1998 (272) | 1999 (387) |
| 1995 (199) | 1996 (155) | 1997 (167) | 1998 (140) | 1999 (188) |
| 1998 (41) | 1999 (73) |
Would you believe we spend almost $600.00 for return mail costs each and every time we do a mailing? This could easily be reduced if everyone would remember to notify us when their address changes. Often by the time we get returns the forwarding notice has expired and so we don’t know where you are. This is just another way we can all make contribution to Withrow by saving money on return mail.
Men of Withrow is a very informal group of men who meet the last Wednesday of every month for luncheon from September through April except for December and January this year. This year they meet at Maketewah Country Club with an open cash bar at 11:00 AM followed by lunch at Noon. The cost is $10.00 each with any overage given to the Alumni. Sometimes there is a program and/or speaker and sometimes it is just old times, good fellowship and checking to see who is still well enough to attend. Someone once told us the reason he liked to attend is because he is usually the youngest person there and he is from the class of 1950. Please mark the dates on your calendar and plan to attend and enjoy visiting other people who also count Withrow as one of the many blessings in this life.
